It became clear from the outset that the name "NYCC" should be big, bold, and proud. Community
engagement workshops held with the young people and staff of Northside Youth Community Connexions helped us draw out ideas that included emojis, symbols and ways to depict the centre’s activities and purpose. Themes such as reaching for the skies (a nod to the club’s location high atop the shopping centre) and creating a space for unity and togetherness also stood out.
Level UP brings all the ideas from the workshops to life through a gaming interface, a popular aspect of NYCC’s cultural identity, while incorporating vibrant, joyful colours. Symbols reflecting the
club’s activities have been transformed into icons, such as boxing gloves and microphones. The entire design uses pixel art and gaming language, with a ‘life bar’ across the door to represent the
club revitalising those who step inside.
Created by 34Bus in collaboration with NYCC, this artwork reflects the unique voices of young people from Edmonton and its surrounding areas.
