Through a series of workshops held with the young people and staff of NYCC, it became clear from the outset that the name "NYCC" should be big, bold, and proud. Other ideas that emerged included emojis, symbols, and ways to represent the centre’s activities and purpose. Themes such as reaching for the skies (a nod to the club’s location high atop the shopping centre) and creating a space for unity and togetherness also stood out.
Level UP brings all the ideas from the workshops to life through a gaming interface—a popular aspect of NYCC culture—while incorporating vibrant, joyful colours. Symbols reflecting the club’s activities have been transformed into icons, including boxing gloves and microphones. The entire design uses pixel art and gaming language, with a life bar across the door to represent how the club revitalises those who step inside.
Created by 34Bus in collaboration with NYCC the artwork reflects the voices of young people from Edmonton and it's surrounding areas.
